Abstract

Purpose: The Purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the amount of exercise and smoking by middle-aged men on theirlevels ofstress and blood lipids.

Method: In thestudy,materialstheKorea Institute forHealth and SocialAffairshad collected from Korea middle aged men in 2005(Korean NationalHealth and Nutrition Survey)wereanalyzed.Allthedataemployed in thisstudy wasanalyzed using SPSS WIN 11.0.Thegeneralcharacteristics were calculated in frequency and percentage.In orderto investigate the relationship between exercise and smoking behaviors and the levels ofstress and blood lipid,a multiple logistic regression analysis thatpresented crude OR and adjusted OR of generalcharacteristics was performed.

Results: No significantrelationshipexistedbetween exerciseandstresslevel.However,smoking and stresslevelwasfound to besignificantly related.Afteradjusting thesubjects¡¯general characteristics,the smoking group displayed much higher levels of stress than the non-smoking group.Asfortherelationshipbetween exerciseandbloodlipidlevel,only totalcholesterollevelshowed a significantdifference with regard to exercise.As for smoking, only TG level displayed a significant difference in respect to exercise.

Conclusion: It is necessary to make systemic study to use the effective excercise-program,stress relaxation management for smoker that enhance people¡Ç health.
